One of the top recruits in Indiana for the class of 2011 will be defensive back Kenny Mullen of Ft Wayne Bishop Luers High School. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect was recently in East Lansing and SpartanMag.com spoke with him about Michigan State.
Mullen, who already holds an offer from the Purdue Boilermakers, Was in East Lansing this past weekend to check out a spring practice and meet with the Spartan coaches. He commented about his experience

"The visit went great, Mullen said. The environment there was incredible as always and the team looked strong. I think they will be a contender in the Big Ten this fall."

As many people know, Head Coach Mark Dantonio not only used to be a defensive back coach, but also played the position at South Carolina. For that reason, he is often very specific when it comes to what he is looking for in defensive backs prospects. Mullen talked about his discussion with the Spartans head coach.

"I talked with Coach Dantonio and he said he likes my speed, strength, change of direction and my filed awareness. He said he wants to see how physical I play in games and then I should get an offer."

One thing Mullen is not shy about is going to camps and combines to showcase his talent. Spartanmag.com scouted him a few weeks ago at the Michigan Showcase Combine and saw him go head-to-head with top wide receivers like DeAnthony Arnett and Shaq Washington. Mullen talked about his future plans.

I am for sure going to Ohio State, Michigan state, Oregon and Alabama, he stated. I am also going to go to the NIKE Camp at Ohio State in May. I am sure I will be at some others, I just need to speak with my trained Mike Ledo about it."

At the Michigan State camp Mullen will certainly get a chance to showcase his skills not only against top wide receivers, but along with other defensive backs prospect that Michigan State is evaluation. Last year lone players like Arnett, Doran Grant, Tony Lippett, Mylan Hicks and Dior Mathis were all at the camp competing against one another. A strong performance in East Lansing could speed up the offer process for Mullen.

Spartanmag.com will be at the NIEK Camp in Columbus in 3 weeks and we will report how Mullen performs head to head with the other top prospect in eth Midwest.
