Klein Oak lineman looking for playing time

Klein Oak's Jon Lewis is one of Baylor's most recent offers at a huge future area of need for the Bears - defensive line.

"I just got the offer in the mail not long ago," Lewis said. "Baylor is a great school. They played a great game against Texas Tech last year when I saw them."

The Klein Oak standout currently plays at defensive end for the Panthers but is being recruited by most schools as a defensive tackle because of his 6-foor-2, 260-pound frame.

"I would rather play end," Lewis said. "I think I have better footwork than most ends do out there. I just like how fast it is and how you get to be more free. If I had a choice, it would be end, but I don't have any problems playing defensive tackle, either. That's where I played at my old school during my sophomore year."

In 2008, Lewis and his father took a trip to Waco for unrelated reasons and stopped by to see the Baylor campus while in town.

"It seems like a nice place to be," Lewis said. The school was really nice and I was surprised how big the campus was overall. I thought it was great."

As far as actual visits go, Lewis has plans to take his first to Texas Tech on April 26th and plans on visiting Baylor, Oklahoma State, and possible TCU sometime this summer.

"First off, any place that offers me a chance to play soon is going to be high on my list," Lewis said of his priorities. "I'm also looking for a place that offers good academics and somewhere closer to home or at least some family or friends. That's not the number one thing, but I think it would probably help a lot."
