Salem after Badger State's top prospect

Michigan State recently entered the sweepstakes to land the top prospect in the state of Wisconsin, athlete Melvin Gordon of Kenosha Bradford.

SpartanMag.com caught up with the 6-2, 180-pound Gordon Thursday night and he talked about his newest offer, from the Spartans.

"I'm not exactly sure when I received it," Gordon said of his MSU offer, "but it's kind of exciting. It's very exciting getting an offer from a big-time school like that."

Gordon indicated the newest member of the MSU coaching staff, running backs coach Brad Salem, serves as his primary recruiter.

Not only does Salem serve as Gordon's contact to the MSU program, but he would end up being Gordon's position coach, if he chooses the Spartans.

"As of right now (MSU) just told me they are recruiting me at running back, and that's what I want to play," Gordon said.

Gordon rushed for 1,061 yards and 11 touchdowns this past season.
