Cottom reflects on Orange offer

Newtown (Pa.) Council Rock North athlete Brandon Cottom holds offers at this time from two Big East programs and one ACC program. Recently Cottom took some time to reflect on one of his Big East offers.

Cottom, 6-foot-2, 233 pounds was offered by the Syracuse Orange early in March and the offer excited him. Not only does the idea of Syracuse stick out to Cottom, but he already has a former teammate on campus in Orange fullback Shane Kimmel.

"I was very excited about the offer. Syracuse is a very good academic school and they have a good football program. A few of my friends play there."

The Keystone State product was able to visit Syracuse earl last month for their junior day. The trip to Syracuse impressed Cottom.

"It was very informative and we got a chance to check out the men's basketball team when they played Villanova. That was pretty cool," Cottom stated. "I like it a lot. I felt a good connection with the coaches, I sat down with the running backs coach and I like him a lot. The facilities are great and the student body seems good too."

One other item that stuck out on the junior day was the crowd that was at the basketball game, which left the prospect thinking.

"I thought it was pretty ridiculous," Cottom said. "I can only imagine what their football games are like."

Rivals.com lists Cottom as an athlete for the class of 2011, but the Orange have already told him the position they want him to play.

"They are looking for me to play running back. I think my size along with my speed and power make me a division one running back. I am very hard to tackle, especially when I get going, and I am very good with the ball in my hands."

Other than the Syracuse offer the two other programs to extend offers are Rutgers and Duke.

As a junior Cottom rushed for 936 yards and 12 touchdowns.
