Clinton-Dix in the defensive backfield
In a state known for producing great athletes, Orlando (Fla.) athlete Hasean Clinton-Dix is one name (or names) that may very well be the next player on the list based on interest from just about every major college football program. With the latest offer to come in the mail from USC, the versatile player is starting to eye the west coast as a potential destination for college.
"I had one piece of mail from them and I was surprised and was looking at it," Clinton-Dix said about USC. "Then a week later I got an offer in the mail. I haven't even talked with the coaching staff."
Despite not talking with the coaching staff since receiving the offer, Clinton-Dix is aware of where the coaches are thinking about playing him.
"They want me to play safety or corner," he said. "I've proven (myself) at 7-on-7 tournaments and other places that I'm a lockdown corner. It doesn't matter where I play, I can do both."
Already holding offers from Florida State, Notre Dame, Alabama and Florida, the Rivals 250 Watch List athlete has seen the recruiting process pick up a lot of steam lately.
"I feel good about it," Clinton-Dix said. "I kind of expected to go through recruiting because I've been playing football (at a high level) since I've been little. At the same time, I have to stay humble and stay hungry. Just let everything come through.
"I look at (the process) as a trap and I have to find the key to it. I keep all that stuff in my head but at the same time stay focused on school work, my workout efforts and my leadership. I have a lot of offers but I haven't connected to them yet so I'm still staying hungry and humble."
Unlike some players, distance from home is not a factor when it comes to USC's location.
"For one, I want to get out of Florida," Clinton-Dix said. "Two, I don't really know too much about USC so I'm going to look into them. I'm the first student at my school to get offered by USC so that shows that they really want me if I'm the first person ever offered at my school.
"I have interest since watching Reggie Bush and stuff like that. I wasn't expecting (the offer) but now that they're in the system, they have a chance."
"I'll probably visit in the fall officially. I haven't put too much thought into it yet."
The 6-foot-2, 190 pound athlete is used to traveling across the country so he means what he says when he won't put too much thought into taking a plane ride.
"I've traveled a lot," he said. "This is home but I want to explore some more. I've done AAU track over the summer since I was little so I've done nationals at certain spots so I've traveled around."
"I just want to be in a place with a great atmosphere. Just an open and relaxed place to be at. If I'm going to be there for the next four years of my life, I want to feel comfortable like I'm at home."
