Star WR makes plans to visit VT
Virginia Tech extended an invitation late last week to a star wideout in the region for the Hokies April 24th spring game. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder plans to make an appearance in Blacksburg next month.
"I just got mail the other day from Virginia Tech about coming to their spring game," wide receiver Matt Zanellato said. "Last week Michigan invited me to a junior day, but I don't think I'll be able to go since I'm moving.
"I'm definitely planning to go to Virginia Tech though. That's the day before my birthday. I've never visited, but my family has. I want to see Tech. I've heard great things from lots of friends about it."
Earlier this month, Zanellato made a trip to Pittsburgh for a visit.
"I went there in early March when they played Villanova," he said. "It was a great visit. I've never been up there before and it was great. I had a fun meeting with all the coachces and got to see their facilities."
Although no scholarships have come to date, Zanellato feels he could be close especially this summer.
"I feel I'm close and a lot of people want me at one day camps," he said. "The concern is with my speed. I think if I run a sub 4.6 I'll see some offers come. They know my size, I just need to run a good 40."
Zanellato is looking at a return to Virginia Tech for camp as well as the Nike Camp in May. He's also considering trips to James Madison and Miami for camps.
The wideout claims a handful of schools have caught his eye at this point in time.
"I can probably say I definitely like Penn State, Michigan, Virginia Tech, North Carolina and Pittsburgh," he said. "Michigan I like because my mom used to live on the campus when I was seven and eight.
"Penn State is because my brother is up there. I've visited and it's real fun.
"I didn't really consider Pittsburgh, but I was very impressed with how they handled everything.
"Tech is obviously because of Brian Laiti and that program. I want to learn more about them.
"North Carolina I've heard so many things. I'm hoping to attend one of their junior days soon.
"Also, Virginia is in there too. Coach London is a good guy."
This week Zanellato is making a move from Robinson to Lake Braddock to join quarterback Michael Nebrich.
"I was just confirmed this past weekend and my parents sold our house and we're moving to that area," he said. "It seems like it's been awhile now, but it seems like the best decision for me being in the spread offense."
Zanellato is coming off an impressive junior season in which he posted first team all-district, all-region, all-league and honorable mention all-state while posting 43 receptions for 650-yards and seven touchdowns.
