Louisville lands another Florida commitment

With Charlie Strong's arrival at Louisville, the state of Florida immediately became a major priority in recruiting. Already Strong has had tremendous success in the Sunshine State. On Thursday night that success continued with the commitment of Port St. Lucie (Fla.) Treasure Coast center Mike Romano.

"I committed to Louisville," Romano said Thursday evening. "I've been talking to my coach and my parents for the past couple of days about committing and I felt that Louisville is the best place for me."

The major factors that played into Romano's decision were his faith in Charlie Strong and his familiarity with the program.

"I know Coach Strong is going to turn that program around and my boy Deon (Rogers) is up there too so I'll have a teammate up there with me," he said.

Another major positive for Louisville is the opportunity to play early.

"They told me that if I enroll early, I'd be able to start as a freshman," he said. "Playing time is a big thing for me. I want to go to a college where I can have an immediate impact."

Romano has yet to visit the Louisville campus but has plans on visiting along with 2010 commitment Deon Rogers for the Louisville spring game this spring. The commitment was one that Romano wanted to get out of the way early so that he could focus his attention on closing out his high school career.

Though Florida is typically known for talent at the skill positions, there is still plenty of talent in the trenches as well. Romano is one representative of that talent. Along with his ability though, he has the mentality you want out of an offensive lineman.

"My strength is just being aggressive until the whistle is blown on every play," he said. "I keep running my feet until that whistle is blown."

Along with his interest from Louisville, Romano was picking up interest from the likes of Florida, Florida State, Alabama, Miami and USF. Though he is a solid commitment, Romano does plan on taking official visits in the fall.
