SU looking at another Gronkowski

During the last recruiting season the Syracuse Orange made an effort to keep in state prospects from leaving. They did have some success and they will try to do the same with the 2011 class. One of the prospects they are looking at is Glenn Gronkowski.

Gronkowski, 6-foot-3, 195 pounds is very aware of the Syracuse Orange and not just because he lives in New York. The Empire State products has seen the Orange come around before as they recruited his family, most recently his brother Rob who opted to head out west and play for Arizona. Besides seeing coaches during his brother's recruitment his father Gordon is a former member of the Orange football team as well.

"I have been down there once or twice. I went to one of their football games and there were not too many people there. I could see that when that place is packed up it is a great atmosphere to play in and it is close to home. I think it would be a great place to play," Gronkowski said. "My dad has told me that it is an absolute blast to play there. They used to be the number three loudest places to play. It was a great great experience for him he absolutely loved everything that went on there."

With the family connections to the school the youngest Gronkowski sees opportunity and more with the Orange.

"There is a great opportunity to play there and it is my dad's alma mater. He has always wanted one of us to go there and now it is down to the last one. It would be interesting obviously, they are not doing so hot right now, and it would be cool to go in and help turn things around."

In college the tight end position has been kind to the Gronkowski family, but right now on Rivals.com Glenn is listed as a wide receiver. Could that change in college? The answer is yes if he were to pick Syracuse.

"Syracuse wants me to play tight end wide receiver. A tight end that plays like the slot and tight end a mixed position pretty much."

Not many visits have been set up at this time, but there is one trip that will be taken this upcoming weekend.

"I am going down to Syracuse on Saturday for the junior day and the Villanova Syracuse basketball game. I plan on getting a tour of the facilities and everything then watch the game."

Right now the Orange have been showing interest in Gronkowski as well as a few other programs like Buffalo, Arizona, Clemson, and UCLA.

As a junior Gronkowski had 34 receptions for 735 yards.
