Tide still leads for Peach defender

The state of Georgia has been a gold mine for the Alabama Crimson Tide when it comes to recruiting over the last several years and 2011 looks to be no different with Nick Saban pursuing several of the Peach State's top prospects. The Tide got off to a good start with one of the state's top prospects in Griffin defensive end Xzavier Dickson and while recruiting has picked up for the future star, Alabama remains his top choice.

"Right now Alabama is still definitely my favorite," Dickson said. "They have a great head coach, a great support staff and they play aggressive and smart on defense. You know what to expect when you get to Alabama. You are going to work hard, you're going to get great guidance from the coaches, and you're going to be competing against the best every day."

The 6-foot-3, 238-pound pass rusher has seen his recruitment pick up since Signing Day with several of the top programs in the South pursuing Dickson heavily, including Alabama's in-state rival.

"Auburn is one place I feel good about too. I like their defensive line coach a lot. He really tells it like it is. I also like that they like to play fast and physical on defense. They are all about making big plays and trying to break the game open every play, which is exciting to watch."

"In the last few weeks, I picked up offers from Arkansas, Florida and Georgia. I feel really good about the offers I have so far and those are three great ones as well, especially since I grew up a Georgia fan."

For now, Dickson said he is focused on staying in shape and improving his skills while waiting patiently as his recruiting picture continues to take shape.

"Since the end of the season, I've pretty much been spending all my time outside of class lifting weights, working on my footwork and competing with the track team. I throw discus."

"I'm going to wait until after the season before I make my decision. I feel good about the offers I have right now but I want to make sure I take all my visits and also that I make my decision after I'm done worrying about my senior season and classes and grades. I want to be focused on choosing the right school."

Dickson boasts a bench max of 325 pounds, a vertical leap of 32 inches and is in great shape in the classroom with a 3.12 GPA.
