Bennett surprised by offer

Ohio State was busy over the weekend looking at the class of 2011 as the Buckeyes took a strong look inside the state borders and offered Centerville (Ohio) defensive tackle/offensive tackle Michael Bennett. The 6-foot-3, 275-pounder very well could be one of the best players that you know nothing about and Bennett is just fine having his play on the field do the introductions of him.

But just because the fan base may not know much about Bennett the Ohio State coaching staff does and offered Bennett on the same day as the Ohio State junior day.

"I was excited and really wasn't expecting it," Bennett said. "I didn't know if they were that interested in me or not."

Bennett can play on either side of the ball but the Buckeyes are looking at Bennett to play defensive tackle. That suits Bennett just fine who likes the opportunity to mix it up in the trenches and try to get to the quarterback. Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Heacock has been handling the recruitment to this point.

"Coaches like that I am aggressive," Bennett said. "They like that I come off of the ball so well and can run really well to go with my aggressiveness."

Bennett holds just shy of double digit offers including ones from NC State, Wake Forest, Indiana and Cincinnati. Of course there is something to be said about being offered from the in-state power in Ohio State but Bennett also knows that he can't allow himself to get caught up in the fervor of the hometown team when it comes down to making decisions.

"I am interested in coaches and teams that are interested in me," Bennett said. "I don't want to go in with a favorite team and I just have to see where the best fit is for me. I can't look at things by just living in a state and I have to look at the caliber of a college."

Does Bennett see any sort of timeline when it comes down to making a decision for where he would like to play his college ball?

"I am not going to rush into a decision but I also know that I can't take it down to the wire," Bennett said. "I will just have to look at things."
