Catching up with Cajuste
We haven't heard much lately from junior prospect Devon Cajuste, a 6-foot-4, 210-pound wide receiver from Flushing (N.Y.) Holy Cross. Nonetheless, the recruiting process has been moving steadily along.
Cajuste picked up an offer from Syracuse last year, and while the Orange are still the only program that has offered plenty of other schools are interested. That's understandable, given the junior year that Cajuste put together.
Holy Cross finished 7-3 on the year with a loss in the semifinals of the playoffs to St. Anthony's. Holy Cross fell behind 28-7 in the first quarter and each team was scoreless the remainder of the way.
For the year Cajuste caught 40 passes for 921 yards (23 yard average) with a long of 80 yards and seven touchdowns. In one game against Iona Prep he caught 13 passes for 219 yards and two scores, including the game winning touchdown in overtime.
"Syracuse is still the only offer I have," Cajuste said. "Rutgers is talking to me now. Notre Dame was talking to me, and then obviously you know about what happened to the coaching staff. I don't know where I stand with them. Penn state is interested but I haven't gotten any letters yet. I'm told more letter will start to come in at the end of January."
Cajuste said he does not have any favorites and did not grow up as a fan of any schools.
During the season he visited only one school, and he didn't leave the region to do that.
"I just went to Rutgers for their last game on Senior Day. I'm going to go to Rutgers this Saturday the 16th for a junior day. Then I think on February 26 or whenever that Saturday is I'll go to a junior day at Syracuse.
"My dad and I will schedule more trips for the summer, and Notre Dame and Penn State will definitely be two that I go to."
