2011 Intro: Derrick Thorpe

Derrick Thorpe from Fletcher High School in Neptune Beach, Florida is one of the top offensive linemen in the 2011 recruiting class, but not many people know about the six-foot-five 270-pound lineman. So far, two teams are recruiting Thorpe heavily, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Thorpe made the trip up to Atlanta to visit the Jackets for the Wake Forest game in October and he was very impressed with what he saw.

"I really liked Georgia Tech actually. I was a really good trip back in mid-October," Thorpe said. "I loved it and it was a really good experience."

The Jackets are recruiting Thorpe as an offensive tackle and he could be close to getting an offer soon from the Georgia Tech staff. He does not have any other visits planned.

"Georgia Tech is recruiting me as a right tackle as is Arkansas," he said. "I don't have any other trips planned yet."

The Razorbacks are also working Thorpe hard and they pulled the trigger giving the talented tackle his first scholarship offer. Thorpe feels the Jackets are very close to doing the same thing.

"Georgia Tech and Arkansas are the two main schools recruiting me right now," Thorpe said. "Georgia Tech is recruiting me the hardest. Arkansas has offered me and I think Georgia Tech is close to."

As a junior, Thorpe helped lead the Senators to a great season and he is looking forward to a summer full of college visits.

"My junior season went really well. I had a good year," Thorpe said. "Our team went 9-1 and had a great year."
