Cooper excited about another GT visit

One of the top middle linebackers for the 2011 recruiting class hails from Winnsboro, South Carolina and plays football at Fairfield Central High School. Junior Ralph Cooper wrapped up an excellent 2011 season with 95 tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and two blocked punts leading his team to a region title for the first time in four years. With his high schools season over, Cooper is focusing on his recruitment and one team, Georgia Tech is the earlier leader for the six-foot-one 220-pound linebacker.

"Right now Georgia Tech is my leader and they are the team recruiting me the hardest. They were the first team and only team to give me a written offer after September 1 and they are the only team I have visited this year," Cooper said. "Clemson and South Carolina are also recruiting me and I tried to go over to Clemson, but it did not work out."

Cooper was at the Jackets first game of the season against Jacksonville State and he will be at the Georgia Tech-Georgia game at Bobby Dodd this weekend to check things out again.

"The only game I went to so far this season was Georgia Tech's win over Jacksonville State and I am really looking forward to seeing them play Georgia," he said. "It should be a great game and Tech has really turned things around under head coach Paul Johnson. I really like Coach Johnson's coaching style."

Georgia Tech assistant coach Brian Jean-Mary is Cooper's lead recruiter and they forged a strong relationship over the summer during Georgia Tech's junior/senior camp when Cooper got a chance to learn linebacker technique from Jean-Mary.

"I really like Coach B.J. and the summer camp was a great experience and overall it was a lot of fun to work with talented players," he said. "Working with Coach B.J. was a lot of fun."

Jean-Mary went up to Fairfield Central last week and met with some of the administration and coaches and Cooper was happy he came by the school.

"It was real cool that Coach B.J. came all the way up here last Monday," he said. "Georgia Tech has been recruiting me really hard from day one and Clemson has also been working me and talking about maybe offering a scholarship as well."

After seeing the Yellow Jackets and Tiger play earlier this year, Cooper is really looking forward to watching the ACC title game from Tampa next week.

"The first game Clemson and Tech played was amazing and I wish it had been on a Saturday so I could have been there," he said. "I know this game will be a good one to."
