September 6, 2008 Boilermaker starting outside linebacker Jason Werner is not playing in the season opener vs. Northern Colorado after sustaining a back injury in practice this past week.Werner, who's drawn glowing praise and lofty expectations for this season, will undergo further tests this coming week to determine the severity of his injury. The junior does have a history of back problems, having presumably overcome a potential career-ending back injury a couple years ago. Offensive tackle Sean Sester - who underwent back surgery in the spring and has been limited in practice - also will not play vs. UNC. Both Werner and Sester were announced to be out of the game for "precautionary" reasons. |
