June 15, 2011David Kieckhaefer has seen Ole Miss many times, as he often made the trip to see his sister, Rachel, star for the Rebels' volleyball program.
However, Kieckhaefer got a close look at the Rebels' football program last week at Ole Miss' elite camp.
"The first time I came, I didn't know a lot about the program," said Kieckhaefer, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound tight end from Hartford (Kettle Moraine), Wis. "I just saw the beautiful facilities they have here. Obviously, it's one of the best in the SEC. I like the people. The people are very friendly and the program's great. They have good coaches who bring in good guys, good role models for the guys. It's just a good setting."
Kieckhaefer has yet to pick up any scholarship offers, but he's confident experiences such as the ones he got in Oxford earlier this month are going to help his development.
"I got a lot of reps against good competition," Kieckhaefer said. "They had a lot of the top guys from all over the South, so it's always good to go up against the best."
In addition to Ole Miss, Kieckhaefer is hearing from Purdue, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa State and Duke.
"I'm open-minded," said Kieckhaefer, who has a 3.4 core grade-point average and a 20 on the ACT.
In the meantime, Kieckhaefer is focusing on improving his stock.
"I need to get a little bit more size," said Kieckhaefer, who ran a 4.8-second 40-yard dash in Oxford. "I'm only like 210, 215 right now. I've got to get my size."
