Wingo enjoying the season
SLUH ATH Ronnie Wingo Jr. has been on everyone's mind recently. The 6-foot-3 talent has helped the Jr. Billikins to a 6-2 record on the season and said the rest of the season was looking bright. He knew the team was in great shape to continue their season well into November.
Wingo may have turned the few heads who hadn't taken notice on October 3rd when, in a game against Vianney, he rushed for 403 yards and six TDs. He added 44 yards and a receiving touchdown to his credit during the game. Wingo said coming into the game, the team had been through two tough weeks, but early in the game, he knew things were going right.
Wingo, currently the top player in the Show Me State, spent countless hours over the last year with recruiting, but hadn't let the pressure get to him. Wingo was taking the time to enjoy himself this season and knew recruiting would be there when he got back to it.
Wingo was one of a number of high profile recruits in the St. Louis area. Even before recruiting, Wingo had become friends with many around the area and he discovered talking with his good friend, Sheldon Richardson, was calming amongst the chaos of the season and recruiting.
Throughout the process, Wingo said one of the men he had gotten to know the best was Missouri coach Cornell Ford. The two had reached the point where talking recruiting was secondary to learning about the lives of the other on and off the field. He was glad the coach hadn't spent a lot of time trying to convince him he was something he didn't believe he was.
The last two weeks have not been kind to the Tigers on the field, but Wingo wasn't worried about the previous weeks. He said the Tigers were getting closer every week and the future could see the team breaking through old barriers.
