Natural State star takes part in NIKE Camp
FORT WORTH, Texas " The Nike Football Training Camp at TCU last weekend showcased some elite players from Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas among other states. One of those other states was Arkansas, and one of its best players was in attendance.
Jesse Grandy out of Pine Bluff (Ark.) Dollarway Senior made the trip to Fort Worth to take part in the event and show of some of the skills that have made him one of the Natural State’s top players.
“I think it went well,” Grandy said of the afternoon. “I met a lot of competition and I met a log of people that can play as well as I can. It was real good for me to be exposed to that.”
Grandy led his team to the state finals as a junior and played primarily quarterback where he was a major threat with the ball in his hands. On the next level, Grandy has the ability to contribute on either side of the ball but has a favorite position of his own.
“At the next level, I think I’d be best at receiver,” he said. “That’s where I want to play. Schools are looking at me as an athlete. It doesn’t bother me at all. I just want to do whatever I can do to help the team.”
To date, Grandy has two offers: one from his homestate school of Arkansas and one from Tulsa.
“I’m hearing mainly from Arkansas,” he said. “The school I followed growing up was the University of Texas but I can see myself at Arkansas or any school. I think I’m going to visit a couple of schools this summer. I’m not sure who they are.”
On the field, Grandy thrives with the ball in his hands and feels like there is a reason he has found success.
“I think the best thing I do well is to think,” he said. “I like to have the ball when it’s crunch time. I like to thrive under pressure.”
A fluid athlete, Grandy will likely see more and more offers begin to role in as the 2008 season approaches.
