Jones plays up to hype of preseason defensive MVP
EAST LANSING - Preseason Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Greg Jones lived up to the hype against Montana State.
The former Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller star led the Spartan defense with 14 tackles, including 3 tackles for loss, with a sack and a half against the Bobcats.
Saturday's game marked the eighth consecutive contest in which Jones has recorded at least 10 tackles. But during post-game interviews Jones was more excited about the opportunity that many of his teammates had to get their first taste of on-field action than he was with his individual performance.
"I was really happy for the young guys," said Jones, "like Dion (Sims) and Caulton (Ray), just to see the look on their faces, I was really happy for them. And really, on defense we did a great job and on offense we did a great job. It was a good game."
