Georgia defensive lineman hoping for SEC offer
Neal McCready
RebelGrove.com Henry Anderson has offers from all over the country.
Just last week, the 6-foot-6, 250-pound defensive end from College Park (Woodward Academy), Ga., picked up an offer from Oregon, his ninth scholarship overture.
Anderson has offers from the ACC, Pac-10, Big East, Big 12 and Conference USA. However, no SEC member-institution has extended an offer yet, though three are showing major interest. Anderson is set to check out one of those three this weekend when he makes the trip west to Ole Miss, a visit set up by Rebel defensive line coach Terry Price.
"I talked to him a couple of weeks ago," Anderson said. "He said he had watched my film and he thought I was good enough to play in the SEC. He said they might be offering soon. He seemed interested. Hopefully, Ole Miss will offer, because it would be awesome to get a chance to play in the SEC. SEC football is the greatest in the country. All of the game sell out, and it has the best athletes. Playing against that competition in front of those fans would be exhilarating."
Anderson, who is also attracting interest from Tennessee, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Michigan State, has offers from Maryland, Virginia, Oregon, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Stanford, East Carolina and Central Florida. He has a 4.12 core grand point average, took the ACT this past Saturday and will take the SAT in May.
Anderson said he expects to make the trip to Oxford with teammate Delino Deshields. Another teammate, linebacker Juwan Thompson, might also travel to Ole Miss to see the Rebels' second scrimmage of the spring.
Anderson said his calling card is hustle.
"I play really hard," Anderson said. "I give 100 percent each play. Hustle is a big part of my game. For a guy my size, I think I do a good job staying low and not letting them get into my pads. I'm trying to work on my speed a lot."
Anderson had 70 tackles and six sacks as a junior.
