Most of the recruiting attention directed toward East St. Louis has gone to highlight-reel receivers Kraig Appleton and Terry Hawthorne. But there is another Flyer who is turning heads late in the process. Defensive tackle Ty Phillips transferred from Bellevue East to East St. Louis prior to his senior season and had a breakout year as the Flyers ran to the state title.

The three-star prospect has an offer from Southern Illinois, but there are bigger programs taking note of his strong season.

Assuming his test results turn out favorably, Phillips thinks he may earn offers from Missouri and Illinois.
