Lake Travis punter has options
When talking recruiting, the position of punter is one that is often overlooked. However, they can play a huge part in the outcome of a game, setting the tone with field position. Texas A&M has been fortunate to have a string of very solid punters over the last decade or so, but with Justin Brantly currently a senior, the position is a giant question mark heading into 2009.
One player that has shown up on the Aggie radar is Ryan Erxleben of Austin Lake Travis. The 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior is the son of former University of Texas kicker and New Orleans Saints first-round draft pick Russell Erxleben. In addition to punting duties, he also is a standout defensive end for the Cavaliers. However, his leg is what will get him to the next level.
"I'd like to play a position, but punting is definitely the main thing for me, though," said Erxleben. "That's what has A&M and a lot of other schools interested."
