Recruiting Op: Matt meets the mainstream
As high school football games become more popular with mainstream media, plasma televisions across the country transform into microscopes.
Matt Barkley has played under scrutiny since becoming the starting quarterback at Mater Dei his freshman year. But when is the word "overrated" used to manufacturer controversy?
Recruiting rankings are subjective, and while college football fans will always opine with bias, the experts are painted as objective.
In other words, from fact experts produce opinion, and opinion is often imperfect.
Barkley plays for a nationally recognized football program in Mater Dei. His junior and sophomore highlight clips are all over the Internet, while the Monarchs play a schedule of nationally televised games each year.
This is the real problem. Barkley has been evaluated by the experts, and now a household name, is being re-evaluated by the mainstream sports fan.
