Jones is breaking the mold
If you're looking for the stereotype that many have of small town high school football players in Oklahoma look no further than Wagoner, Okla. three-star linebacker Gus Jones. That's no offense to the 6-foot-2, 211-pound Sooner commitment, it's just that Jones has spent his summer days working out for the football team and working a triumvirate of jobs that include building fences, remodeling houses and bailing hay.
"It's been a long summer, I've just been working and working out, I've got three or four summer jobs," Jones said. "I've got a few different jobs through the days; building fence, remodeling house, or bailing hay.
"I had my vacation last week, I went to the lake a lot."
The big inside linebacker committed to Oklahoma on May 29 and has since seen his mailbox slowly start to lighten its load. However, several schools are still trying to get in touch with Jones.
That hasn't slowed things down for Jones who has spent his downtime this summer getting to know linebackers coach, and defensive coordinator, Brent Venables.
