Texas cornerback a sleeper no more
The name Desmond Gardner is a new one to Texas high school football fans and for good reason. The 5-foot-11, 180 pound cornerback is a newcomer to the Lone Star State.
However, after only one season at Port Arthur Memorial, he has made a big impact both on the gridiron and the track.
"I moved to Texas this past June," said Gardner. "This was my first year at Port Arthur. I got first-team all-district in football and I run the 4 by 1, the 4 by 2 and the 200 in track. We did alright. The 4 by 2 team made it to Regionals."
His play on the football field has attracted the attention of several colleges in the area.
"I've been offered by Texas A&M, Arizona State, University of Arizona, Baylor, TCU and Arkansas," Gardner said on Thursday evening. "Some of them came during track season and some since I've been in spring ball. They seem to come in spurts.
