Square visits Capstone
Houston (TX) defensive tackle Damion Square was a pleasant surprise for the Crimson Tide back in August when he chose Alabama over Florida, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska and other top programs. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound lineman made his way to Tuscaloosa last weekend for an unofficial visit to the Alabama-Georgia game and left with a great impression of his future school.
"I loved my visit to Alabama this week. That crowd was so live I wouldn't have left it I didn't have to. I would have stayed and started getting ready for next season. I had heard about the atmosphere but that was so live. I wasn't expecting that," Square said. "The game was great. I thought the defense fought hard and the comeback showed they aren't going to give up. It wasn't Alabama's best game and Georgia played pretty close to their best. I think Alabama was still banged up from the Arkansas game. I was proud of them."
Square also plans on taking an official visit to Alabama later this year once his senior season of high school football is behind him.
"I can't wait to go back for my official. I'd like to go sooner but I'm going to be into my season the rest of year and won't have time until after the play-offs. If I can though I'll go back. I liked hanging out and talking to the coaches. All the players are cool with me."
Back home at Yates High School, Square's and his teammates are off to a strong start putting up a dominant defensive effort.
"We are 3-0 right now. I've got about 22 tackles and four sacks so far. I've been seeing a lot of double-teams but we expected that. I just have to fight through them to make plays," Square said. "I'm not playing this week. I've got stitches in my lip from where my helmet came off last week and I got kicked. The doctor won't clear me but I'll be back for the next game."
As a junior, Square racked up 91 tackles and 16 sacks. He is rated the nation's No. 50 defensive tackle by Rivals.com.
