Building around the O-Line
Of all the positive aspects to come out of Cal's impressive 45-31 victory over Tennessee last week, the play of the Bears' offensive line certainly jumps to the top of the list. Anchored by junior All-Conference center Alex Mack, No. 10 Cal controlled the line of scrimmage and eventually wore down the athletic Volunteers' front four.
Now heading into their first road contest of the year Saturday morning against a Colorado State team that gave up 129 yards on the ground in its season opener, the focus will once again be on how well the Bears dwell in the trenches.
Leading the way en route to 230 yards on the ground going head-up against the physical Tennessee defense, Cal's front-five of Mack, left tackle Mike Gibson, left guard Brian De La Puente, right guard Noris Malele and right tackle Mike Tepper opened up hole after hole for the plethora of athletes that the Bears ran out onto the field.
