Miami has been trying to make a push for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Cardinal Gibbons safety Stephen Atkinson, who performed well at Boston College's summer camp and then verbally committed to the Eagles on July 13.

Atkinson told the Miami coaching staff, respectfully, to not waste their time.

Atkinson, a 6-foot-1, 183-pound prospect also had offers from Cincinnati, Wisconsin, Akron and Central Michigan. West Virginia, South Florida, Iowa State and the Hurricanes were showing interest.
