Bruins Sneak Past Cougars

In front of over 11,000 at Pauley Pavilion on Thursday night, the top ranked Bruin basketball team needed a second half rally to defeat a solid Washington State group, 55-52 in the Pac-10 opener for each school.

[db]Darren Collison[/db] scored 11 of his team-high 13 points in the game's final 14 minutes as UCLA used a 14-4 spurt over a three and a half minute stretch in the second stanza to secure a lead against a well-coached Cougar squad.

During that key run, junior guard [db]Arron Afflalo[/db] buried two crucial three-point jumpers, and the Bruins were helped by two Wazzu turnovers and two bad shots by Cougar shooting guard [db]Kyle Weaver[/db].
