Pitt exhibits prowess over CMU

Panther-lair.com Maybe if Pitt had faced Carnegie Mellon in a match of science fair exhibits, there might have been a bit more competitiveness. Instead, the Panthers and the Tartans met in an exhibition basketball game Wednesday night at the Petersen Events Center, and the result was about as lop-sided as a poorly constructed paper mache volcano, with Pitt beating CMU 103-45.
"I have a lot of respect for Carnegie Mellon," Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said after the game. "They're a very young team and they won their league last year, so we have a lot of respect for their program. But we had a size advantage."
Yes, size was one advantage the Panthers had over the Tartans. They also had an advantage in experience, shooting ability, defensive prowess, ball-handling skills, and, last but not least, talent.
"We wanted to win the battle on the boards," Dixon said; Pitt out-rebounded CMU 66-37 in the game.
