Graves is good to go

The Pitt Panthers held an intra-squad scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center. Even with the two teams divided, each team looked like a competitive Division I team. On the Blue squad, the guards were Antonio Graves and Geoff Rizk.

Forwards Tyrell Biggs and Mike Cook started along with Aaron Gray at center. The Gold team had Keith Benjamin and Levance Fields as the guards, with Levon Kendall and Sam Young as the forwards. Doyle Hudson was the center. The Blue team defeated the Gold team, 68-59.

The matchup to watch was that of Antonio Graves against LeVance Fields. Graves was running the point in place of Ronald Ramon, who was sitting out as just a precautionary. Ramon underwent shoulder surgery this past off-season. Graves, who provided quite a spark in the second half of the 2005-06 season, gave Panther fans another reason to be excited for this 2006-07 season.

Everyone is expecting big things from Aaron Gray in his senior year, and is looking for the continued development of sophomores Sam Young and LeVance Fields, in addition to Ramon's experience.

Graves scored 32 points on 10-of-12 shooting, was 4-of-4 from three-point range and had four steals. Granted, it was an intra-squad scrimmage, but perhaps no one in the building was more surprised or impressed than Graves.
