Wafford working to regain starting spot

Kansas State left guard Greg Wafford had heard it all. Some fans questioned his work ethic. Others questioned his dedication. So the 6-foot-2, 339-pound senior co-captain, who started in all 11 games a year ago, understandably felt a sense of accomplishment in scratching his name off the physically unable to participate list last week.

Wafford's next step? To re-claim his status as a starter for the Sept. 2 opener.

Wafford passed the Wildcats' conditioning test last Wednesday morning. Sophomore defensive tackle Alphonso Moran was the final player activated on the roster for fall training camp when he passed the test one day later.

Coach Ron Prince said Saturday the test consisted of three timed sets of 300-yard shuttles with a brief recovery period in between.

"(Players) can see I'm not flinching," Prince said at the conclusion of training camp Saturday. "There's a standard you have to be at."
