Panthers look at Philly guard

Now that Pitt has its first verbal commitment in hand for the Recruiting Class of 2007 with the declaration by Darnell Dodson (6-7) this past weekend we will look at a few other possibilities. Coach Dixon has four more scholarships to give so this could be a large class.

Pitt has offered a scholarship to Philadelphia guard Earl Pettis (6-5, 205). Pettis played for Nueman-Goretti High School and helped the Saints win the Philadelphia Catholic Championship the past two years.

Pettis was heavily recruited by Temple for the Class of 2006 but has recently been reclassified to the Class of 2007. In September he will begin classes at the Patterson School in Patterson, North Carolina.

Pettis told the Pantherlair that Pitt had offered him a scholarship within the past couple of weeks and that he also now has offers from Rutgers, Temple and Providence.
