EAST LANSING - Sometimes opportunities come in strange ways.

While Brandan Kearney was earning his keep on the scout team, it took random chance to earn minutes. But then in early December before leaving for Spokane, senior Austin Thornton was late to a meeting. So - due to a team rule that he and Draymond Green set at the beginning of the season - he would not start. Only Austin wasn't a starter.
