Springmann continues to pick up offers
One of the top players on the recruiting board for Mark Dantonio and Michigan State is offensive line prospect Tony Springmann of Bishop Dwenger High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana. SpartanMag.com caught up with the 6-foot-7, 265-pound prospect and got the latest information on his recruitment.
Springmann has seen his stock continue to rise throughout the winter months and into the spring. SpartanMag.com asked him about the total number of scholarships he current has and which teams have offered him most recently.
"I have 12 offers in writing," he said. "I picked dup offers from Duke, Boston College, Wake Forest, Louisville, Stanford and Minnesota this month."
Those schools join Michigan State and in-state Big Ten programs Purdue and Indiana.
The Spartans offered Springmann early on in the process. The Bishop Dwenger standout has been high on Coach Dantonio's list of top recruits for the class of 2011 since he had a strong performance last summer at the Michigan State summer camp.
Springmann followed-up that camp performance with a solid junior campaign and was one of the standouts at the United State Army All-American Combine held in San Antonio back in January. SpartanMag.com scouted that event and came away very impressed with Springmann's overall athletic ability for someone his size.
As far as his future plans, Springmann is not sure about all of the schools he will be hitting in upcoming weeks, but he does know one trip for sure.
"I am going to visit Stanford on April 5th," he said. "I also will be going to the NIKE Camp that will be held in Columbus on May 1st."
Whether Springmann makes it up to East Lansing to check out a Spartan practice or the Green and White Game should not impact how he feels about the Spartans.
"I have not talked with them as of late, but I still love Michigan State," he said.
With Fort Wayne only being a short drive up I-69, it is not out of the question that Springmann makes a quick trip up to Michigan State to check things out again. Springmann has worked with Offensive Line Coach Dan Roushar and has a good rapport with him as well as several other Spartan coaches.
With a dozen offers already on the table prior to the spring evaluation period, Springmann is easily one of the best offensive line prospects in the Midwest for the class of 2011. SpartanMag.com expects he will be a 20 scholarship offer recruit by this summer and he should get serious 4-star consideration.
